The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) offers funding to aid communities
in conducting public awareness initiatives during National
Crime Victims' Rights Week, 2005 (April 1016, 2005).
The theme of this 25th Silver Anniversary Celebration is "Justice
Isn't Served Until Crime Victims Are."
Background
Each April since 1981, when President Ronald
Reagan proclaimed the first Victims' Rights Week, communities across
the nation have held public rallies, candlelight observances, and commemorative
activities to promote awareness of victims' rights and needs.
2005 Community Awareness Project Funding
OVC will reimburse
approximately 60 communities up to $5,000 to aid them in conducting public
awareness initiatives.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated and
competitively selected based on the strength of the application
in several areas.
Eligibility
Public agencies, nonprofit organizations,
community-based victim service organizations, faith-based organizations,
tribal organizations, and community coalitions committed to advocating
for the rights and services of crime victims are among those encouraged
to apply.
Allowable and Unallowable Activities
Before applying,
interested applicants should ensure that the activities they propose
are allowable.

Timeline
By late January 2005, all applicants will
receive notification of the status of their applications.
