State Crime Victim Compensation and Assistance Grant Programs

Funding History
OVC distributes money from the Crime Victims Fund, established by the 1984 Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), to states to support victim compensation and assistance programs.

Victim Compensation
Compensation programs reimburse victims for crime-related expenses such as medical costs, mental health counseling, funeral and burial costs, and lost wages or support.

Victim Assistance
Approximately 5,600 grants support community-based organizations that serve crime victims.
