Drug-Related Victimization

The following materials my prove useful to OVC grantees seeking guidance in administering or managing their grants or developing and managing victim services programs. A general listing of all OVC publications is also available.

Acquaintance Rape of College Students (2002)
This problem-oriented guide for law enforcement, published by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, summarizes the nature of acquaintance rape among college students and suggests strategies for improving police response to such incidents. PDF (180 kb)

Children at Clandestine Methamphetamine Labs: Helping Meth's Youngest Victims (June 2003)
This bulletin (NCJ 197590) describes the health and safety risks faced by children who live at or visit clandestine methamphetamine labs. Measures are suggested to respond to children's mental and physical health issues when law enforcement officers seize meth labs. The experiences of several states that use multidisciplinary teams are offered as examples of promising interventions and the importance of collaboration among federal, state, and local agencies to ensure the care and protection of these children is emphasized.

Children at Risk (2002)
This bulletin from the National Drug Intelligence Center discusses the exposure of children to methamphetamine labs and the chemicals in them. The bulletin also includes strategies to help at-risk children. PDF (415 kb)

“Date Rape” Drug (Rohypnol) (2001)
This Web page by the National Women’s Health Information Center uses a Q&A format to summarize basic information about Rohypnol. The page also includes links to groups that can provide additional information.

Drug-Facilitated Rape: Looking for the Missing Pieces (2000)
This article from the National Institute of Justice Journal summarizes research findings about drug-facilitated rape and includes a section based solely on victim experiences.

GHB Analogs GBL, BD, GHV, and GVL (2002)
The use and distribution of, and toxocological tests for, analogs of GHB—including GBL, BD, GHV, and GVL—are described in this bulletin from the National Drug Intelligence Center.

Methamphetamine Interagency Task Force—Final Report (2000)
This report by the National Institute of Justice describes the distribution and magnitude of methamphetamine use in the United States, as well as principles, needs, and recommendations to inform efforts toward prevention, education, treatment, and law enforcement. PDF (312 kb)

Toxicological Investigations of Drug-Facilitated Sexual Assaults (1999)
This Federal Bureau of Investigation report addresses common problems encountered by toxicologists in cases of drug-facilitated sexual assault and provides suggestions to overcome some of these obstacles.

What Are Predatory Drugs? (last accessed June 2003)
This Drug Enforcement Administration Web page briefly summarizes the dangers and effects of predatory drugs such as Rohypnol, Ketamine, GHB, and GBL. Links to specific facts about each drug are featured.
