About the Author

Janice Harris Lord is a licensed professional counselor and certified social worker with a background in sociology and psychology. From 1983 to 1997, she served as Director of Victim Services for the national office of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). In 1993, she received an award from the U.S. Attorney General for Outstanding Services in Crime Victim Advocacy. Ms. Lord has achieved national recognition for her work as an advocate and has participated in numerous national, regional, and state trainings and presentations. Of particular note was her coordination of the annual National Candlelight Vigils of Remembrance and Hope and Family Focus Day for MADD. She is the author of No Time for Goodbyes: Coping With Anger, Sorrow, and Injustice After a Tragic Death and Beyond Sympathy: How to Help Another Through Injury, Illness, or Loss.
